Daniel Young Kim
Visual Effects/Ceramic Artist
dan@gldnmnky.com

Daniel Young Kim (b. 1978, Portland, Oregon), known as gldnmnky, creates ceramic works that translate the language of film and animation into physical form.

Working in time-based and sculptural media, his practice draws from a career in visual effects and stop-motion and merges technological precision with the organic variation of clay.

Themes of transformation and nostalgia recur throughout his work. Spinning vessels loop hypnotic sequences that animate over time, and cinematic motifs adorn vessels that appear unearthed and resonate with an uncanny familiarity.

Gldnmnky (pronounced “golden monkey”) is an anagram derived from the consonants in Daniel Young Kim and represents the transmutation of natural elements into form.
